              &lt;div&gt;&lt;p&gt;After Governor Gavin Newsom’s nomination, the Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed Charles A. Smiley to the position of Associate Justice on February 14, 2025.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Before joining the First District Court of Appeal, Justice Smiley was a judicial officer on the Alameda County Superior Court for 17 years. He started in 2007 as a court commissioner and was appointed superior court judge by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., in 2012. During his work on that court, he served as its presiding judge, assistant presiding judge, and as a supervising judge of the juvenile courts and of the collaborative, treatment and diversion courts.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Smiley has been appointed to statewide committees including the Judicial Council Advisory Committee on Collaborative Justice Courts where he also leads its subcommittee on Racial Justice, Equity and Inclusion as a co-chair. He also participated on the Power of Democracy Steering Committee, the Commission on the Future of the Courts, and as a faculty for judicial officer training on bias and ethics. Justice Smiley has taught trial advocacy skill courses at UC Law San Francisco and at Berkeley Law.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Smiley began his legal career as an attorney in the Office of the Alameda County Public Defender. In addition to his role as a trial lawyer, he worked in the office’s appellate unit and supervised one of its branch offices.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Smiley has received awards for his work from the Alameda County Bar Association, the California Association of Black Lawyers, the Charles Houston Bar Association, and the Tribal Justice Collaborative. He has also worked with numerous organizations and programs that support youth, teach civics, and encourage the pursuit of higher education.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Smiley is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and UC Law San Francisco.&lt;/p&gt;

              &lt;div&gt;&lt;p&gt;Justice Michelle C. Kim was nominated to serve on the Second District Court of Appeal, Division One by Governor Gavin Newsom. She was unanimously confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments after receiving an &quot;exceptionally well qualified&quot; rating by the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Justice Kim was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.  She served as Assistant Supervising Judge in limited jurisdiction for the Criminal Division and Site Judge at several courthouses.  She also presided over an unlimited civil calendar at the Spring Street Courthouse and an unlimited civil independent calendar court at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, both in downtown Los Angeles.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Justice Kim received her B.A. in American Studies from Stanford University. She received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;After law school, Justice Kim served as a Deputy Public Defender and then Deputy Alternate Public Defender for Los Angeles County.  She tried numerous felony jury trial cases to verdict as sole trial counsel representing indigent clients.  Just prior to her appointment to the bench, she served as a departmental Head Deputy at the Alternate Public Defender’s Office.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Justice Kim is currently Vice Chair of the Los Angeles Judicial Selection Advisory Committee (LA JSAC) and is active in local bar associations and community organizations, including the Executive Committee of the LACBA Litigation Section.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Justice Kim was honored with the 2025 Judicial Service Award from the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association (SCCLA) for her service to the bar and bench. Justice Kim is a Girl Scout Gold Awardee. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

              &lt;div&gt;&lt;p&gt;Justice Monique S. Langhorne Wilson was appointed to the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division One in December 2023 by Governor Gavin Newsom.  The Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed her appointment in January 2024.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Before joining the First Appellate District, Justice Langhorne Wilson was the first African American, appointed in 2018 by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., to serve as a Judge of the Napa Superior Court.  Langhorne Wilson would later retain her seat in a contested election in Napa County in 2020 with over 80% of the vote. In early 2023, during her last year as a Superior Court Judge, Justice Langhorne Wilson served as a Justice Pro Tem for three months with the Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division Five.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Prior to her appointment as a Judge, Justice Langhorne Wilson was the first African American to sit on the Napa Bench when she was selected as a Commissioner for the Superior Court in 2006.  During her tenure as a Judge for five years and a Commissioner for twelve years, Justice Langhorne Wilson served in a variety of judicial assignments: Supervising Judge of the Criminal Division; master criminal department; civil and criminal jury trials; civil law and motion; felony preliminary hearings; the trial court’s Appellate Division; AB1058 child support calendar, juvenile dependency and delinquency; truancy court; family law; civil harassment and domestic violence restraining orders; small claims; misdemeanors; juvenile and adult drug court and traffic court; Mental Health Court; probate hearings; conservatorships and guardianships; firearm prohibition hearings, habeas petitions; forced medication hearings; unlawful detainer trials.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Immediately preceding her appointment to the bench as a Court Commissioner, Justice Monique Langhorne Wilson was a Deputy District Attorney.  She was the first African American to serve in this capacity in Napa County.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Langhorne Wilson was faculty for New Judges Orientation, (NJO), 2017-2023 and a host of other educational courses offered through the California Center for Judicial Education and Research, (CJER).  She also served on the 2012-2013, B.E. Witkin Judicial College Steering Committee and the Ethics and Fairness Curriculum Committee, 2008-2011. Justice Langhorne Wilson was appointed to the Executive Committee for the California Judicial Mentorship Program (CJMP) and prior to her elevation to the Court of Appeal, sat as the liaison for the North Bay Regional Committee for CJMP. She is currently a member of the California Association of Black lawyers, (CABL), Association of African American California Judicial Officers, Inc. (AAACJO), Charles Houston Bar Association, (CHBA), and a board member with the newly formed California Women Judges (CWJ).  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Langhorne Wilson received her B.A. in 1996 from the University of California, Berkeley, where she majored in Rhetoric and African American Studies.  She earned her J.D. from Berkeley Law (formerly Boalt Hall) in May of 1999. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In her spare time, Justice Langhorne Wilson loves spending time with family and working with children.  She is a mentor with the Jesse Bethel High School Law Academy in Vallejo and the Presiding Judicial Officer for American Canyon Peer Court. &lt;/p&gt;

              &lt;div&gt;&lt;p&gt;Gary Elvin Strankman was a Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal in California&#039;s First Appellate District, Division One. He was appointed by Governor Wilson on July 23, 1991, and was confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments on August 26, 1991, taking his oath the same day. He was then confirmed by the electorate on November 8, 1994 for a 12-year term commencing on January 3, 1995. Prior to his appointment, Strankman had been an Associate Justice of the same court, Division Three since May 16, 1988, when he was appointed by Governor Deukmejian and confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments. He had been confirmed by the electorate on November 6, 1990. Before that, Strankman had been a judge of the Superior Court of Contra Costa County since January 5, 1981, having been elected to the post on June 3, 1980, and re-elected in 1986. He was the Presiding Judge in 1987 and 1986, and was the Assistant Presiding Judge in 1985. Strankman also served as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in Contra Costa County between 1978 and 1980, and was a Deputy District Attorney from 1968 to 1978, serving as a trial deputy and head of the Richmond and Concord branch offices. He also served with the Contra Costa Legal Services Foundation in 1968. Strankman was a member of the California District Attorneys Association, serving on the Board of Directors in 1979. He was also a member of the St. Mary&#039;s College County Scholarship Committee from 1978 to 1988, and was named Trial Judge of the Year by the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association in 1985. Strankman was a faculty member of the California Continuing Judicial Studies Program from 1988 to 1995, and was an instructor at U.C. Berkeley, John F. Kennedy Univ. School of Law in Walnut Creek, Golden Gate Univ. in San Francisco, and various community colleges in Contra Costa County. Strankman had earned his J.D. from the Univ. of Calif., Boalt Hall School of Law in Berkeley in 1966, his LL.M. from the Univ. of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville in 1995, his M.A. in English Literature from San Francisco State Univ. in 1968, and his B.A. in English Literature and History from the Univ. of Washington in Seattle in 1963. Strankman was born on March 23, 1941 in Shelton, Washington and was widowed. He had two daughters. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean War, reaching the rank of Lieutenant (Aerial Navigator). He went on to earn his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1949 and his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1952. After being admitted to the California Bar in 1952, Racanelli began his private law practice specializing in civil and criminal proceedings in both Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County and San Francisco. In 1964, Racanelli was appointed by Governor Brown, Sr. to the Superior Court in Santa Clara County. He was elected to the bench in 1966 and reelected in 1972. Racanelli was named the Presiding Judge in 1971 and the Assistant Presiding Judge in 1977. In 1977, Governor Brown Jr. appointed Racanelli to the Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division One, succeeding Presiding Justice John B. Molinari. Racanelli was confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments in June 1977 and took the oath of office on June 3, 1977. He was then confirmed by the electorate in November 1978 and reconfirmed in November 1982. Racanelli served as the Administrative Presiding Judge from January 1981 to February 1987 and retired from the bench in January 1991. After his retirement, he served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law at Hastings College of the Law from Fall 1991 to Spring 1992. Racanelli was a member of many organizations, including the National Council on Crime &amp;amp; Delinquency, the California Judges Association, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco, The Bay Institute of San Francisco, the Italian-American Heritage Association, The Hastings College of the Law Alumni Association, and the International Academy of Trial Judges. He was also the President of the American Justinian Society, Chairman of the Koshland Civic Unity Awards Committee, and a participant in the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts. Racanelli received numerous awards throughout his career, including the &quot;Brotherhood Award and Torch of Freedom&quot; from the San Jose chapter of B&#039;nai B&#039;rith Anti-Defamation League, the &quot;Order of Merit&quot; from the President of the Republic of Italy, the &quot;Award for Exemplary Service&quot; from the Italian American Lawyers of California, the &quot;Certificate of Honor&quot; for distinction and merit from Hastings College of the Law, and the &quot;Distinguished Service Award&quot; from the Santa Clara County Bar Association.               &lt;div&gt;&lt;p&gt;Justice Robert L. Dondero was confirmed as an Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division One, on July 30, 2009, and served until his retirement on October 12, 2018. Before assuming this position, Justice Dondero was a Superior Court Judge in San Francisco, serving from February 1992. During his tenure on the trial court bench, Justice Dondero served on the criminal bench at the Hall of Justice, the Juvenile Court, and the civil trial departments. From 1998-2000, Justice Dondero was the Supervising Judge of the Criminal Courts. He was elected by his colleagues as Assistant Presiding Judge of the San Francisco Superior Court from January 2003-December 2004, and then elected Presiding Judge from January 2005-December 2006.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Dondero attended Riordan High School in San Francisco. He graduated from Santa Clara University in 1967, and University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1970. He joined the Office of the District Attorney in San Francisco in January 1971, serving as a Deputy District Attorney until 1978. During that period he handled a variety of trials, specializing in homicide and sexual assault prosecutions. In 1978, he became an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of California, handling numerous federal prosecutions with an emphasis on white-collar litigation. He served with the Department of Justice until he was appointed to the bench, a total of fourteen years.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;As a native San Franciscan, Justice Dondero has participated in several charity organizations, serving on the boards of Little Sisters of the Poor and the St. Thomas More Society. He received their St. Thomas More Award in 2009, an annual award given to a person who invests his time in legal outreach and social needs of the community. Justice Dondero also taught Criminal Law at San Francisco Law School from 1990-2007. He was a delegate to nations such as Turkey, Israel, Egypt, and India with the Institute for the Study and Development of Legal Systems. The purpose of this work was to assist these countries in the development of improved criminal procedure practices and legal reform generally.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Dondero was selected as Trial Judge of the Year by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association in 2004; Trial Judge of the Year by the San Francisco Barristers Association in 2005; and Judge of the Year by the Italian American Bar Association in 2006.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Justice Dondero is married to Elizabeth Heffernan Dondero and has two daughters. His interests are hiking, reading, and travel.&lt;/p&gt;

Anderson was confirmed by the electorate on November 4, 1986 and reconfirmed in 1990. He retired on September 15, 1997. Prior to this, Anderson was an Associate Justice of the same court, Division Three, from April 4, 1984 to December 6, 1984. He was appointed by Governor Deukmejian on March 9, 1984, succeeding Associate Justice Sidney Feinberg, who had retired. Anderson also served as an Associate Justice pro tempore in Division 4 in 1981. Before that, he was a Judge of the Superior Court of Alameda County from January 4, 1975 to April 4, 1984. Anderson was appointed by Governor Reagan on January 3, 1975 and was later elected in 1976 and 1982, both times unopposed. He was rated in the upper third of superior court judges by the Alameda County Bar Association in 1983. Before being a judge, Anderson was a Senior Trial Deputy District Attorney (1973-75) and a Deputy District Attorney (1964-73) of Alameda County. He was also a Legislative Advocate for the California District Attorneys Association, the California Peace Officers Association, and the California State Sheriffs Association from 1967-73. Anderson is a member of the California Judges Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is a former member of the California State Bar’s Criminal Law &amp;amp; Procedure Committee (1970-74) and a former director of the Rotary Club of Oakland (1980-82), the Lake Merritt Breakfast Club (1982-83), the YMCA Youth Development Project (1976-77), the Lincoln Child Center (1976-77), and the East Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (1977-83).
