James D. Ward

Justice James D. Ward was appointed to the Court of Appeals by Governor Wilson in 1996 and confirmed by the electorate in 1998. Prior to that, he was a judge on the Superior Court, appointed by Governor Wilson in 1993. He had a long career in private law practice and was also a Deputy District Attorney in Riverside County. He was a member of many organizations, including the California Judges Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Board of Trustees of the University of California, Riverside. He was awarded the Jurist of the Year Award by the Judicial Council of California in 2003 and the Pride in the Profession Award by the State Bar of California in 2003.
