John K. Trotter, Jr.

John K. Trotter Jr. was a retired presiding justice of the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division Three. He was appointed to the new division in 1982 and confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments and the electorate in 1986. Before that, he served as a judge in the Superior Court of Orange County from 1979 to 1982. He was also a partner in a private law practice specializing in civil and trial practice, insurance defense, medical and legal malpractice, and negligence law. He was a member of the California Judges Association, Orange County Bar Association, and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He was awarded the "Appellate Justice of the Year Award" in 1986 from the California Trial Lawyers Association. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1934 and had seven children.
