Elwood Lui 6132
Elwood Lui is a retired Associate Justice of the Second Appellate District Court of Appeal, Division Three in California. He was born in Los Angeles in 1941 and is the seventh child of immigrant parents from China. He attended public schools in Los Angeles, including Arlington Heights Grammar School, Mt. Vernon Junior High School (now Johnnie Cochran Middle School), and Los Angeles High School. He was a track athlete in high school and had a classmate, Dickran Tevrizian, who went on to become a United States District Court judge. Elwood Lui was also friends with Kathryn Todd, Doi Todd, who is now on the district's Court of Appeal, and Richard Maullin, who became Jerry Brown's energy secretary. Elwood Lui reflects on his public school education, which he believes molded his personality, philosophy in life, and ability to relate to others.
