James H. Hastings

James H. Hastings was a retired Associate Justice of the Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division Five. He was appointed by Governor Reagan in 1973 and confirmed by the electorate in 1982. He served as a Senior Judge from 1987-89 and as a Judge of the Superior Court in Los Angeles County from 1972-73. He also had a private law practice from 1948-72. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II and was a lecturer at Southwestern University Law School and the University of Southern California. He was a member of several organizations and wrote significant decisions on cases involving car rental companies, restaurants, corporations, and patients' rights.
