Justice Hugh Arthur Evans, who served on the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, from 1974 to 1990, was interviewed as part of the Judicial Council's Appellate Court Legacy Project. He was born in Ogden, Utah in 1922 and moved to California with his family when he was 10 months old. His father worked in the wholesale grocery business and his mother was a concert pianist. He grew up in Hermosa Beach and Carmel, California, and his family was involved in the arts. He learned to play piano as a child and his father passed away when he was 15. Justice Evans shared his experiences growing up and how the arts and his family shaped his life.
