Overview

The State of California, Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, is accepting applications for a Court Systems Administrator. 

The Court Systems Administrator provides training and local support for the court’s information systems to ensure the continuity of hardware and software operations within the court.

The court is looking for a highly motivated self-starter who is interested in working in a fast-paced environment in which personal initiative and skills are highly valued. Reporting to the Court Technology Manager, the selected individual will perform a broad variety of systems administration and support activities in a Microsoft-based environment. The ideal applicant will possess a high degree of personal integrity, excellent interpersonal, and training skills, and a high degree of personal adaptability to perform the tasks required. Starting salary will be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected individual.

Responsibilities

Operational Support:
• Installs, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs servers, personal computers, and peripheral equipment using appropriate hand and diagnostic tools.
• Monitors and maintains the court's local area network and other systems environments used in the court.
• Fine-tunes and maximizes systems operations; checks overall software performance and compatibility with other software and operating systems.
• Maintains and provides backup, restore, and recovery support of application systems on a variety of platforms.
• Monitors the court's connectivity to the judiciary's wide area network.  Identifies, reports, and resolves problems with the Judicial Council’s information technology staff.
• Maintains and provides backups and logs; restore and recovery support of data and application systems on a variety of platforms. Provides for the archival and retrieval of information from backup library.
• Installs and configures systems and software upgrades with the court and Judicial Council’s information technology staff; replaces components and performs other maintenance and repair.
• Maintains and updates manuals documenting operational procedures. 
• Maintains an inventory of computer equipment and associated supplies.
• Reads technical manuals and maintains technological currency through self-study as well as formal training.

User Support:
• Excellent customer-facing skills
• Establishes and maintains user accounts in the Active Directory.
• Provides training to employees on existing software and updates to software applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft products, Office 365, Windows OS, Word, Edge, Chrome, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Adobe products, etc. 
• Receives and responds to users' calls for technology equipment and inquiries for technical support on computer software and hardware, local area networks, and other peripheral equipment, both onsite and remotely.
• Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves hardware, software, and network connectivity problems; researches potential solutions and refers more complex problems to senior staff for resolution.
• Provides user assistance on electronic mail and processing problems.
• Assists in developing and revising macros and glossaries for the court's use, as requested. 
• Evaluates and recommends software and hardware products for the court's use, as requested.

General Support:
• Replaces components and performs other maintenance and repair; installs and configures replacement equipment and catalogs technology equipment inventory and associated supplies; ensures safe connectivity and storage of devices.
• Coordinates and implements the physical relocation of computer systems and equipment for the court.
• Sets up and administers telephone, voice mail, and other audio/telecommunications equipment. 
• Installs, configures, and administers security related systems for video surveillance, access control, emergency response, network security, and data recovery, etc.  
• Troubleshoots and maintains other electronic equipment such as copy, fax, scanner, and postage equipment.
• Organizes own work, sets priorities, and ensures deadlines are met.
• Provides orientation, training, and guidance to new staff.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree, preferably in information technology or equivalent certification and three (3) 
years of customer and technical support experience supporting and maintaining servers, 
hardware, operating systems, networks or telecommunication systems

Additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted on a year-for-year 
basis, however equivalent to graduation from high school is required.

Licenses and certificates:
• None

Knowledge of: 
• Systems performance analysis, including troubleshooting and diagnosis of technology equipment and systems. 
• Principles of telecommunications, network environments, and other systems environments used in the court. 
• Operating systems used in the court. 
• Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of servers and computers. 
• Tools for diagnostics and repair. 
• Applicable business equipment and desktop applications. 
• Basic principles and practices of project management and coordination. 
• Applicable work rules and policies. 
• Workplace safety and injury prevention practices. 
• Effective communication and presentation skills.

Ability to: 
• Analyze systems’ performance and maximize efficiency. 
• Install, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and repair computers, servers, and other technology equipment. 
• Operate and monitor information technology networks. 
• Safely use diagnostic tools. 
• Provide a variety of user support services. 
• Prepare written reports and recommendations. 
• Read and understand technical manuals. 
• Work independently and use initiative within established guidelines. 
• Organize, coordinate, and prioritize work activities and projects and meet critical deadlines. 
• Train staff in work procedures and the use of software products. 
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong working knowledge of Active Directory (2016-2025 preferred)
• Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP Networking
• Strong working knowledge of Windows based Operating Systems, such as: Windows 11, Windows Server 2016-2025
• Strong working knowledge of VMware 8 (ESXi and vCenter)
• Strong working knowledge of Rubrik Security Cloud for data security and backup
• Ability to automate tasks
• Excellent networking and systems administration skills, including switches and routers
• Valid California driver's license
• Familiarity with remote access solutions & web-based technologies.

Pay and Benefits

Salary range is $6,543 to $8,352 per month

Please note: Due to statewide fiscal conditions, state-level judicial branch employee pay is temporarily reduced by 3% through June 30, 2027. In exchange for this reduction, employees accrue an additional 5 hours of paid personal leave each month.
