Profile of Marsha Amin

Justice Marsha Amin was appointed to the Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division One, by Governor Gavin Newsom and sworn in on August 20, 2026.  Before her appointment to the Court of Appeal, Justice Amin served as a judge of the San Diego County Superior Court from 2023 to 2026, where she presided over criminal and family law matters.

Prior to her appointment to the superior court, Justice Amin served over twelve years as an attorney at the Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division One, including as Managing Attorney to the Administrative Presiding Justice.  Before her work in California’s judicial branch, Justice Amin practiced civil litigation at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP and served as a law clerk to Judge Louisa S. Porter of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

Justice Amin has served on Judicial Council committees and workgroups concerning appellate practice and administration, including the Appellate Advisory Committee and Appellate Practice Curriculum Committee.  She has also held leadership positions in the San Diego Appellate Inn of Court, including serving as its president.  Throughout her career, Justice Amin has been deeply committed to access to justice and helped develop San Diego’s Civil Appellate Self-Help Workshop for self-represented litigants.  She was honored with Legal Aid Society of San Diego’s Outstanding Service Award in recognition of her dedication to ensuring underrepresented communities have meaningful access to the legal system.

Justice Amin earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego, a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the San Diego Law Review.
