The Court of Appeal, Sixth Appellate District's 2024 Summer Externship Program has concluded. Eight judicial externs and one administrative extern recently celebrated a successful summer session with our justices and the Court’s Technology Manager.

The Summer Externship Program provides law students an opportunity to learn more about the workings of California appellate courts and in particular, the role the court’s legal staff play in the administration of justice.

This summer's externs included students from the University of California Law, San Francisco, University of San Francisco School of Law, Santa Clara University School of Law, University of California, Irvine School of Law, and the University of California, Santa Cruz.

The Summer Judicial Externship Program at the Court of Appeal, Sixth Appellate District looks forward to welcoming law student applicants for the Summer of 2025. The application and selection period will begin in early January 2025.

Each selected extern will be assigned to the chambers of a participating justice. This externship will give the selected law students an opportunity to learn about the work of a state appellate court, particularly the role of a judicial staff attorney. The availability of law school credit will be at the discretion of the participating justice. While the court does not offer monetary compensation, students are encouraged to research whether they are eligible for funding through a law school program.
