Edward A. Hinz, Jr. was born on May 26, 1933, in York, Nebraska. He served as an Associate Justice in Division 3 from May 14, 1990, until February 11, 1994.
Education Background
Hinz received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1961, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. Prior to this, he spent two years at Harvard College. He completed his Bachelor of Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1958. Hinz was admitted to the State Bar on January 16, 1962.
Judicial Appointments
Hinz served as an Associate Justice for the California Court of Appeal in the Second Appellate District, Division 3, from May 14, 1990, to February 11, 1994. Before this, he was a Judge at the Los Angeles Superior Court from December 31, 1974, to May 14, 1990, an appointment made by Governor Ronald Reagan. His judicial career began at the Los Angeles Municipal Court, where he served as a Judge from 1973 to December 31, 1974, also appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan.
Professional Experience
Before his judicial appointments, Hinz worked in the Attorney General's office. He was the Chief Assistant Attorney General from 1972 to 1973 and served as a Deputy Attorney General from 1961 to 1972. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Hinz passed away on May 6, 2019.
