Madeleine I. Flier is a former Associate Justice for Division Eight. She served in this position from September 25, 2003, until February 28, 2018.

Madeleine was born in New York, New York.

In terms of her education, Madeleine obtained her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of San Fernando in 1968. She also studied at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Westwood, California. She was admitted to the State Bar in the same year she graduated, 1968.

Madeleine has extensive judicial experience. She served as an Associate Justice for the California Court of Appeal in the Second Appellate District, Division 8. Her tenure in this role lasted from September 25, 2003, to February 28, 2018, after being appointed by Governor Gray Davis.

Before this, she was a Judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court from 1980 to 2003. She was appointed to this position by Governor Jerry Brown Jr. Prior to her role in the Superior Court, she was a Judge for the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1977 to 1980, also appointed by Governor Jerry Brown Jr.

In addition to her judicial roles, Madeleine has a professional background in law. She was an Assistant City Attorney for Los Angeles County from 1975 to 1977. She also served as Legal Counsel for the Board of Administration of the Department of Water and Power's Retirement Disability and Death Benefit Insurance Plan in Los Angeles from 1971 to 1974. Earlier in her career, she was a Deputy City Attorney for Los Angeles County from 1968 to 1975.
