Roger W. Boren

Roger W. Boren was born in 1941 in Bingham Canyon, Utah.

Boren received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966. He then went on to earn his M.A. from the University of San Jose in 1968 and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1973. He was admitted to the State Bar in 1973.

Boren served as an Administrative Presiding Justice for the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District from January 31, 2004, to January 31, 2017, appointed by Chief Justice Ronald M. George. He also served as a Presiding Justice for the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division 2 from January 12, 1993, to January 31, 2017, appointed by Governor Peter Barton Wilson. Prior to that, he was an Associate Justice for the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division from August 27, 1987, to January 1, 1993, appointed by Governor George Deukmejian. Boren also served as a Judge for the Los Angeles Superior Court from 1985 to 1987 and for the Newhall Municipal Court from 1984 to 1985, both times appointed by Governor George Deukmejian.

Before his judicial appointments, Boren worked as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of California in Los Angeles from 1973 to 1984.

Boren served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in Military Intelligence from 1968 to 1979.
