Stephen Goorvitch is an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division Two.

Justice Goorvitch began his legal career in Washington, D.C., where he worked for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement.  Justice Goorvitch then served as a law clerk to the Honorable Nora M. Manella of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and to the Honorable Rosemary S. Pooler of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  Justice Goorvitch worked in private practice at O’Melveny & Myers, LLP.  Justice Goorvitch also served as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.

On November 13, 2015, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. appointed Justice Goorvitch to the Los Angeles Superior Court, where he presided over civil and criminal cases.  Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Justice Goorvitch to the Court of Appeal on February 19, 2026, and he was unanimously confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments on May 22, 2026.   

Justice Goorvitch graduated from the University of California at San Diego and received his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley.  Justice Goorvitch was a high school teacher in Japan for one year between college and law school.
